Style Envy: Alexa Chung

So pretty much my ultimate style icon, someone who ticks every trend but in the most effortless, thrown-on way possible, is Alexa Chung .

The short

For me, this is the classic look that comes to mind when I think Alexa. Denim shorts with a simple tee are one of Alexa's staple outfits, and although this is an obvious summer look, when paired with tights and a leather jackets, you're good to go for Autumn and winter too.

Masculine Tailoring

So this is quite possibly the most difficult and most unwearable trend ever existing, but of course Alexa pulls it off with complete confidence and ease. From the structured blazer and the monochrome contrast, to the fierce shoes, everything is ticked off in this androgynous look.

Overalls/Dungarees

There are many pictures of Alexa's off-duty clothing of choice; overalls and dungarees and this trend was surely initiated by her, the original wearer.

50's Glamour

In my mind, everything about this outfit just works, she looks stunning in this elegant 50's style tea dress, paired with the classic red lips and cat-eye flick - it's perfectly subtle and oh-so sweet.

British Breton

A Breton top just seems to be something that everyone owns, and Alexa is no exception. Although breton goes with pretty much everything, Alexa shows the colours that best compliment it; mustard and red.

As I'm sure many fashion lovers, bloggers, celebrities, women and stylists (the list goes on) would agree, there is no-one out there who embodies the good old style crush more than Alexa does- hats off to you and your influence on british fashion Alexa!

Favourite nail polishes for autumn/winter

These are my favourite nail polishes for Autumn/Winter. As you can see, this is a range of shades, two of these in particular may not look appropriate for the season, however I personally don't like to limit myself to all dark shades, a pop of colour is sometimes needed!

Nail polish swatches from left to right:

1. MUA's All Nude - This is a creamy off-white colour, which I thought was true white when I purchased it but I'm glad it isn't, as the nude shade looks more flattering on the nails. The consistency of this is great, it's thick and opaque after just one coat, although I would recommend two coats for any nail polish if you want staying power. Overall, this is amazing value for the mere £1 it retails for, and as far as I can tell, the quality is not compromised in any way.

2. Barry M's Black 47 - This is a true jet black, with the standard fast-drying consistency and glossy finish that the brand is known for. It retails as £2.99, still a cheap price for a good quality, high street polish.

3. Barry M's Peach Melba - What I love about this colour, is that it's unlike any other shade I've seen (and that includes the likes of Ciate, Dior and Essie polishes), it's a peachy tone, which verges on coral, and not only amplifies even the slightest of tan, but also looks great with rose gold or gold jewellery. This also retails at £2.99, and although it doesn't look traditionally Wintery, I love wearing it regardless of season.

4. Barry M's Red Wine - I've wanted a Maroon/Burgundy nail polish for so long, and this just ticks all the boxes, it's a deep and rich pigment, which makes you feel all warm and Christmassy inside. This also retails at £2.99.

5. H&M Jo Is In The House- This is my most worn and loved nail polish of all time. It's a glittery topcoat, with particles of rainbow glitter, and it's absolutely gorgeous over any coloured shade. Recently, I've been loving wearing it over MUA's All Nude, the combination reminds me of fairy lights and snowflakes! This was from last year, so I'm not sure if you can still buy it, however there are plenty of alternative polishes, such as Barry M's Sequin nails in White.

6. LA Colors Color Craze in Wired - This is a stunning shimmery midnight blue, with light reflecting particles, it's a great party colour and I will probably wear it on New Year with the H&M topcoat. I bought this on offer for £1.

So there it is, my autumn/winter nail picks, I hope you like them as much as I do!

Remembrance.

Not many bloggers post about this, but I wanted to acknowledge Remembrance Day.
Beyond make up, and fashion, Starbucks, food and anything else I like to blog about, this is real life trauma, and these representatives of our country deserve a small moment in our thoughts, so let's drop everything for a little while and forget our everyday worries for something so courageous and meaningful.

A slice of Amsterdam

Wow, the city that i had such high expectations for, not only came up to them but exceeded them, plus tons more. In just two (and a half) days I had the most amazing time, I cannot wait to go back and I need to stay for much longer next time, I miss it!Trying to cram everything Dutch into just a few days is hard, but very very fun - I'm not complaining! I managed to squeeze in seeing the Anne Frank house, eating poffertjes, trying schnitzel (and loving it, althought it's not actually Dutch, I'd never had it before), and seeing the the laidback, positive Dutch way of living firsthand. Let's take a little look...

Jetting off!

Next stop was a look at the gorgeous Ronald Mcdonald house, in Valkenburg, a popular tourist destination. This was designed by Hundertwasser, specifically for children with mental or physical handicaps and disabilities to stay in. It's such a beautiful design compared to the clinical, characterless hospitals and clinics you normally see, so it was a breath of fresh air to see a building that looks perfect for children to stay in.

We popped down to Maastricht for one night at the beginning and one night at the end of the stay, it was such a lovely town and well worth a visit! This picture is of the Vrijthof, the main square of Maastricht, which holds plenty of big concerts and is lined with countless bars and restaurants which are very buzzy at night!

Overall, it was an amazing trip and Amsterdam is somewhere I would return to in a heartbeat. The city seems to have a little of everything, with it's charming houses each of which are individual, canals round every corner, and a relaxed and happy atmosphere! Theres definitely a lot still to explore which is a good excuse for a second visit!

See you soon Amsterdam, missing you already!
