Recent Tumblr Inspiration

The sky in this picture is such a beautiful blend of colours, and it's such a peaceful, calming picture.

This picture just reminds me that, at every moment, millions of people are travelling, moving, leaving places and discovering new ones- I love that thought.

Hot drinks are something I love about Autumn-Winter time, along with huge fluffy jumpers, fairy lights, cuddles and blankets.

Off to Amsterdam!

In October I'm off to Amsterdam for four days, which I'm very excited about as I've always wanted to go! I thought I'd share some of my expectations and the things I am looking forward to, and then I'll do a blog post on my trip when I get back with pictures etc.

Things I hope to see

Anne Frank's house/museum

This is somewhere I have wanted to go to ever since I read Anne Frank's diary a few years ago, I am aware that this will be quite emotional, however I believe that it is important that someone who made such an impact and told such a poignant story at such a young should be recognised and remembered.

Clogs

Yes I'm being the ultimate typical tourist, but I'm proud of it! There are some things that are just a disappointment if you don't see them, and clogs are one of these. So, yellow, wooden, traditional shoes...I'm coming to get you (I won't actuallly be buying any)! ;)

Canals

I've seen a few canals in my time- some in Venice, many in Camden- but none look as beautiful as this, and I'm always up for a good photo opportunity, especially of the reflections of those houses on the still water.

Poffertjes

I've heard great things about these and they do look delicious, a bit like pancakes only... fluffier!
I can't wait to get stuck into them, I'll probably end up with sugar powder all over me- definitely embracing a new experience!

All in all, I cant wait, bring it on Amsterdam!

Current music favourites

Over the past few months, I've discovered lots of new artists and bands whose songs I have been playing on repeat, I love different things about each of them, and i feel that they all bring something new to the music industry which is difficult in this day and age when there's so much out there!
I thought I would let you know about them, so everyone can discover their talent!

Gabrielle Aplin

Gabrielle Aplin is an acoustic artist I have been listening to for years- ever since she started uploading covers on youtube, then wrote her own songs, and, following her cover of 'Power of love' featuring on the John Lewis christmas advert 2012, eventually released her album English Rain, which is beautiful and very true to her mellow, sweet beginnings.

Standout songs from the album include:
  • How do you feel today - this is a very tender song, which really makes you think about the lyrics, which as always with Gabrielle Aplin, are very meaningful.
  • Home - A song which has captivated me long before her album was released, it states home as the people in it, rather than place.
  • Salvation - the lyrics emphasise how much trust and love someone can put into another, and how you can't help who you fall for.
Disappointing song from the album: Keep on walking doesn't seem to have as much substance as the other songs, it isn't as believable

Favourite song of Gabrielle aplin to date: Reverse - for its sheer beauty and simplicity, and the relatable pain it contains.

Ellie Goulding

I've always enjoyed the upbeat nature of Ellie's music, however i do find some of her songs, especially released singles, to be too catchy and pop-y for my liking. Despite this, I decided to listen to her album anyway, and I did enjoy it.

Standout songs:
  • I know you care - This is beautiful, it's stripped back, and refreshing compared to her normal style, it explores the notion of never losing hope.
  • Joy- The slow pace of this makes it relaxing and easy listening, before the beat and pace quicken to make the song more dramatic.
  • Explosions - This song really builds up to the chorus, and Ellie's voice shines.

Disappointing song from the album: Anything could happen - I can see how it would appeal to some people, but personally, I prefer Ellie's voice in more stripped back songs, however it is extremely catchy.

Favourite song from Ellie Goulding to date: I wish I stayed - there's just something about the music and the lyrics which make it so charming, and it sounds very orginal; its the first Ellie Goulding song I heard.

Cara Delevigne Key Make-Up Looks

Many of Cara's looks are incredible, these are a few of my favourites, that I hope to recreate soon!

The Bold Pink lip

This look really focuses on just the lips, however Cara's famous brows always play a part in the overall look. This bright, Fuschia pink colour really accentuates dewy skin, so it looks great with         sheer, light coverage foundation, and possibly highlighter, little else is needed.

Classic Glamour

This is one of Cara's most full-on make up looks, keeping base make up simple, with hardly any blush or contouring so that the eye make up and lipstick work in harmony, without looking too much.

Heavy on the eyes

This look is all about the 'slept in' smokey eyes, as everything else including lips is kept nude.

Review: Maybelline Eyestudio Gel Eyeliner

After using the Tattoo Me Semi Permanent liquid eyeliner by 17, which retails at £4.99, for the past few years, I have never switched to another eyeliner as I have found the durability of it to be unbeatable. However, after getting fed up of the clumps that come with a product formulated for 48 hour wear, and the difficulty of removing the product at the end of the day, I decided to try a new eyeliner.
I decided to buy Maybelline's Eyestudio Gel Eyeliner which I had been considering for a while, the £8 price was holding me back as I wouldn't usually pay this for an eyeliner, however I decided it was worth it for a product which I had heard was similar to Mac's Fluidline in Blacktrack, and which comes with a decent brush.

I've now used this liner for a week and have been enjoying the effortless look it gives without much effort at all. This liner is the perfect formula for smokey evening eyes and daytime looks alike, as one layer can provide a natural, grey-black colour, but building up can develop an intense black look.
An initial complaint I had about the product was the slight shimmer I had noticed after application, however this has since grown on me, I'm actually starting to like how it gives a glamorous eye look.

The brush that this eyeliner comes with is great, it's a breath of fresh air especially after the over-flexible, messy applicator that most liquid eyeliners seem to have. This brush is a good shape, is precise, and picks up the right amount of product.

Currently, my only dislike is the silver lid, which looks tacky in comparison with the actual container, which is professional-looking.
There does not seem to be a huge amount of product, but I will see how long it lasts- probably longer than I am expecting.

Overall, I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a fuss-free eyeliner which can be used for any occasion and dries in under 30 seconds.
